unused space erasing failed to erase some undeleted files?

Re: unused space erasing failed to erase some undeleted file Thanks a lot David. As I reported on another post, I just copied some of files over for Eraser 6.x, I am able to run it. Joel said that there would be some Security exception which I might get which I have yet to see.

unused space erasing failed to erase some undeleted files?

Re: unused space erasing failed to erase some undeleted file Thanks a lot, David. I looked at the FAQ, from what I read, the issue is that there is reduced free space after the free space erasing due to some files created by eraser to erase was not been able to be deleted by eraser...

unused space erasing failed to erase some undeleted files?

When I tried out the erase of unused space (eraser 5.8.8 ). It went great except 2 things. One is that I got some out of free space error on writing to disk, I guess that it is probably due to that eraser would create files on the free space and then overwrite those files, so it could...

    Running Eraser on virtual machine

That's a good point. Let me do more testing and report back on this. I know that the first run, it hang on the some windows help file. Second run, it hang on some windows drive pnf (pre complied inf file). However I am not sure how it would be related with registry. I am not sure if the slowness...

    Running Eraser on virtual machine

Yes, the file is not large. It is from Eraser 5.8.8. so I would assume that it doesn't have the force unlock unless I am missing sth here. "handles to files that are not immediately available" seems a more reasonable explanation.

    Running Eraser on virtual machine

Sure, will keep an eye on this. Based on my observation, when it is really slow, it is staying on one particular file and its percentage is 0 and after a really long time, its percentage would be changed from 0% to 100% very quick, then it will stay on next file with same pattern. So I am...

    Running Eraser on virtual machine

Hi, David, thanks a lot for your insight on this. By wiping partial OS to make it unbootable is good enough for us for now. The tricky part is that my application needs to try to rerun the eraser here by killing the eraser if it doesn't move forward (I need to figure out a way to know this)...

    Silent Install 6.0.7

We are not doing anything special. However since Joel said that we should not share this freely, so I won't go into further. >>It's arguably the most dangerous thing anyone can be doing to a Windows install (I term it God Mode) I might be missing sth here. I am not sure that it could be that...

    Running Eraser on virtual machine

Thanks a lot Joel for your information. Yes, I did try that on a windows XP machine over the weekend. Yes, you are right, a lot of files are not able to eased although a lot of files are erased as well. It is a little strange to me that if I re-run, I could erase more files. When I erase the...

    Silent Install 6.0.7

Thanks for the detailed explanation, David. >>The other approach is to use the portable version of Eraser 5.8.8 Thanks very much for the suggestion. The portable version exactly suits my needs. With this, I just need to package the eraser with our software and I don't even need to install it...

    Silent Install 6.0.7

Thanks for your points, David and it is very valuable. >>But do bear in mind that it deals less comfortably with Win 7 and Vista than Eraser 6, and that it is no longer supported. I know that Eraser 5 is not supported any more. However we really could not do what we want at Eraser 6. I would...

Do we really need the multiple passes for overwritting?

Hi, expert, I read this from help file for Eraser and it is very good and offers some insight about why we need multiple passes: However from this wiki page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Data_erasu ... tes_needed, it said: I would assume that most of computer has the modern hard disk and it...

    Running Eraser on virtual machine

For us, we don't really care if machine is working or not after erasing. The main purpose is that we would like to erase all the possible files on the whole machine without using wipe tool from booted externally. From reading so far, I think that there are 2 approaches I could go: First...
