    Vista Question

Thanks, jackjack. I've downloaded 5.86a, and am probably going to install it after I read a little more. Like I said, I've used Eraser for years, but the past few upgrades have given me cause for pause, after reading of the Eraser woes of other folks. Do you think my fears are grounded?

    Vista Question

Hello, everyone. I have been a user of Eraser, and bragging on it all over the place, for about seven years, now. I believe that it was 2001 when I first used it, when it was being developed by someone else...SourceForge, I think. I've used it on W95, W98, WME, W2K, and WXP. I've been using...

Thanx Thanks, Gralfus. I appreciate that info.

    Encrypted directories

Invisible When the file is dismounted, does eraser overwrite it, thinking that it is "freespace"?

    Encrypted directories

Virtual drives, etc. For example, Cryptainer hides an encrypted, virtual drive. TrueCrypt can hide a drive within a drive, and another within that. PGP simply encrypts files without hiding them. How does eraser "see" the drives? Does it erase the encrypted data?

    Encrypted directories

When overwriting unused space, how does eraser interact with virtual, encrypted, hidden directories? If it can't find it, I suppose it can't erase it. If it is invisible to eraser, does eraser assume that it is free space, and overwrite it? Anyone here have any experience with this?

How can I erase MsWord backup files?

Cleaners I noticed that no mention was made of the CleanUp utility. Are there problems with it that I'm not aware of. It, too, offers the options of overwriting the files mentioned...(bak, tmp, etc.).

Is it safe to use Eraser in safe mode?

I'm running W2k Pro. I've thought about running Eraser, for unused space cleanup, in safe mode, in order to speed things up. It seems that it would be safe, but I don't know. Is it safe? I use Eraser 5.7.

    Nuke

Thanks Thanks, tateu, for your reply. Actually, I was inqiuring about a "final" nuke, with the dban floppy that Eraser creates.

    Nuke

With a 400 mHz cpu, how long does is take to "Nuke" a 40-gig HDD, using the 35-pass Gutmann? (90 MB SDRAM, if that matters.)

    Version 5.6

Right now, I'm using Eraser 5.6. I'm reluctant to use 5.8 because of the problems that I keep reading about. I've used 5.7; but, for whatever reason, I seemed to have downloaded and installed 5.6. It seems to work okay. Are there any problems with 5.6 that an upgrade to 5.7 would handle? Is...

    Windows 2000

Testing Well, I have used the Rest2514 program after doing an Eraser run on a Drive, and it has never found anything. I guess that's a kind of test.
