I had Eraser running for the first time - v5.8.8 - doing a disk cleanup.
Went back to the puter hours later and it said that the task was not completed. There was a list of 1000+ files that had not been erased.
Shutdown and rebooted... blue screen "Unmountable_Boot_Volume"
STOP: 0x000000ED
Can't boot in safe mode.
Can't run recovery console.
PLEASE HELP!!!!

Does your drive work? Did SMART complain about failing drives? Does your BIOS still detect the drive? Eraser stresses the drive and mechanical failure is a real possibility.

I was able to run a diagnostic test provided by the OEM. The device self-test, seek-test and S.M.A.R.T. test ran successfully. The confidence test, read-test and verify-test all failed. Giving errors of "uncorrectable data error or media is write protected".
Computer will not boot from the original XP cd.
Not sure if this answers your questions.
Appreciate your reply.

Yes, that's a drive failure then. The disk has "died," in a way.
