which tool is less likely to damage my hard drive or have something disastrous happen? dban or the manufacturer's (Gateway) write-zeroes tool that goes with my hard drive?

my machine is a 6-year-old Pentium II, 350 Mhz, 512 MB RAM, and HD is about 8 GB, running Windows 98fe.

i want the most security possible, as i want to start with a fresh, secure hard drive. yet i'm nervous about wiping or even using the write-zeroes tool. i've never done either, only standard reformatting.

thanks.

DBan will give you more secure wiping options as well as a quick wipe which is the same as the Gateway write-zeros tool.

Neither should harm your hard drive.
