DBAN stops on failing to detect SCSI (which isn't there!)

Similarly to pricklypig, I got the screen which just hung:

boot:
Loading kernel.bzi . . . . . . . . . .
Loading initrd.gz . . . . . .
Ready.
Uncompressing Linux . . . Ok, booting the kernel. Please wait . . .

So, following Darik's advice, on turning the verbose option on, the last few lines are as follows:

scsi: <fdomain> Detection failed (no card)
NCR53c406a: no available ports found
sym53c416.c: Version 1.0.0-ac
Failed initialization of WD-7000 SCSI card!
IBM MCA SCSI: Version 4.0b
IBM MCA SCSI: No Microchannel-bus present --> Aborting.
o This machine does not have any IBM MCA-bus
o or the MCA-Kernel-support is not enabled!

The machine itself is a UK "Time"-branded machine, and is built around a MSI-5191 board, with an AMD-K6 500, 128mb memory, 13.6 gb Seagate Medalist HDD, Samsung CD-ROM. It's my parents old machine, which I'm planning to reinvent as a little linux server, but they're keen to know that all their personal data has been wiped.

In terms of features, the machine seems fairly stripped down, and I'm almost certain that there's no SCSI on it (it certainly doesn't seem to be an option in the Bios to turn it on).

I checked that the BIOS is up to date (it is).

Any ideas?

Many thanks,

Nick.

Got round problem by putting hard disk in newer machine

Connected the Seagate disk as the only HDD in my Athlon 1700 running on Asus Kx7 board. Happily did a quick erase, now on the first pass of the DoD 5220-22.M

Thanks.
