Eraser delete files already deleted?

Hi,
I 'm sorry if this is a stupid question but does Eraser 5.86 work if a file has already been deleted from the recycle bin?

If so can someone point in the right direction of easy to follow instructions on what to do? I have read the help guide but am getting a bit confused.

Just run a free space erase pass. The help files are pretty verbose last I checked.
