How to proceed with eraser

Senior citizen here, not too familiar with computers, Have a Windows 2000 to give away and want to erase what I should first. How to proceed? Your eraser program has been suggested. What do I need? as in a blank disc, etc.Thanks.
 
try Derik's Boot-n-Nuke intead

It sounds like you need to use Derik's Boot and Nuke instead. This program will completely erase the contents of your hard drive. Eraser will only wipe files you designate as well as free space on your HD. DBAN (Deriks' Boot and Nuke) will completely wipe the contents of your computer. That's your better option, based upon the info you provided in your post.
