No answers to users questions and problems

I put a question days ago without any answer. That time I also saw the same problem reported from other users but no one answered. Now, almost a month ago I came to see there another new posts with other problems without solutions. Is there anybody out there???, Is someone checking this forum to see what's going on??
I cannot make "unsused disk space" option to work. I tried everything, stopped AVG antivirus, turned off the firewall, stopped every no critical service, stopped EMule, Picasa etc, without success. At 16% of the task, it stops. Can anybody help me?

Can't guarantee I'll be able to help but can certainly try :)

Details are the key to getting help, so....

What OS
What version of Eraser
What wipe pattern
What size drive and how much free space
Have you used chkdisk to see if there are any errors on the drive?

Ok, this is the info:

Windows XP Professional SP2
Eraser 5.82
Unused disk space
Methods: US DoD 5220-22.M(8-306. /E)
Overwrite:
Free Disk Space (And Master File Table Records) (checked)
ClusterTip Area (checked)
Alternate Data Streams (checked)
60 GB HDD, 20 GB free space

I used chkdisk and found no errors

Just as I told you, and the subject of my post.....
There's no answer at all. I can't get the point about this forum. The application is not too difficult to use, so if all this is about on how to use it....
I guess that complaining is a waste of time but the fact that Eraser is a free application does not mean that we user have to receive no explanations. Even if it is a "We don't want to help you" it will be nicer than the silence.

I posted this http://www.cipherserver.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=2471&sid=b081968e29f0faeb59c110bfdaa948fb about 1 month ago, it is similar to your post. I would like to point out something I find very strange, I am going to Quote Source Forge here. http://sourceforge.net/projects/eraser/
Activity Percentile (last week) : 97.36
How can Source forge report this level of activity for Eraser (every week activity is within about 1.0 percentage point of this reported number) and still be in the stage of development it is in. Where is the Admin? How many weeks since he last posted (and I mean in Eraser support), and when the Admin posted did he really answer a important answer or just a easy question.

Carver,

Eraser is given away free. We do expect users to help each other hence the forum. It is sad that the free/cheaper something is the more people bitch about it.

Perhaps we should offer fulltime support and charge for the binaries?

Eraser is given away free.
That seem to be key, doesn't it. So when Eraser's pride and joy wipes out somebody work file and criples their computers they have to go hat in hand to get it fixed. Not by you..your never around, for example http://www.cipherserver.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=2497&sid=7e173aac8ffa0531ace558bb98b988d0

We the members of this fourm are here for support from an expert, programer or moderator not someone who may be guesing.

That is the only way the members can get your attention.

Perhaps, maybe Eraser would be further along in development.

Eraser is given away free.

This is interesting to me and I am sure many others. I wonder if you wouldn’t mind explaining the motivation behind software developers such as yourself who write software for free.

It must take a lot of time writing and supporting software and I notice there is a huge number of people doing this for free. I understand some do it to attract people to their site in the hope to sell them another product but I have also noticed many doing it (seemingly anyway) just for fun. I would be very keen to hear why you continue to maintain Eraser when you rarely get any praise for it !

It is sad that the free/cheaper something is the more people bitch about it.

I am surprised at this. Although I suppose if something is free then more people will use it.

Perhaps we should offer fulltime support and charge for the binaries?

How about that ? Would you make more progress with developing Eraser if you charged for it ? How about a small enough charge so that more people would be prepared to buy it and hackers would probably not bother making a keygen for it. Say £10 or so ? There certainly seems to be enough users at the moment, stack them high sell them cheap as it were.

As Eraser is indeed free I have never complained about its slow development since 2003. I would very much like to see a reliable stable release since 5.7 that incorporated some of the feature suggestions made by users.

I have recently tried to find a post I read some time ago where a user suggested a method of erasing the free space and cluster tips that would have dramatically reduced the time taken to perform the wipe with no security loss but unfortunately I cannot find the post. I think it was something to do with which order Eraser deleted in rather than a wiping option.

Anyway I for one thank you for your work on Eraser and I wish you every success with it and you day job.

Thanks.

This application was created by another individual. Released under the GNU, it was passed on to the current Admin. Thereby, the current Admin did not create this, but simply overtook development of the application.

This means all the support headaches that go along with that.

Give it time.

Hi everybody, finally after two months, I could solve the problem. When trying to erase unused space Eraser stopped at some file and crashed. I investigated the problem with that file. I found that it didn't exist at all!!. I don't know where did Eraser get the name of the file but ther was no file with that name. Anyway as it was located at a temporary internet folder, I simply delete the folder and that's it!!. I have to mention this situation repeated with some additional "ghost" files, but deleting them the problem was solved and all the unused space was finally erased. Still remains to know where did these file names come from....

Can someone tell me what options they have for the recycle bin Right Click menu when the recycle bin is empty. Specifically I am looking for the presence or absence of the 'erase recycle bin' item.

Thanks, and sorry to hijack this thread. PM me or email me if that would be easier.

I don't know if you saw my answer in your original thread

http://www.snugserver.com/phpbb2/viewto ... highlight=

The choice to erase the RB is there whether the bin is full or empty (eraser 5.7)

In order to clarify my last post. I didn't delete any file because I mentioned the problem was that those files actually don't exist at all. I deleted all the folders that Eraser mention as containers of the "ghost" files.
