Securely Erasing Laptop Hard Drive

My son has a Dell Precision laptop with a defective hard drive (bad sectors). Dell will be sending him a replacement drive, but I suggested that he use Eraser to eliminate all data from his defective drive before returning it to Dell. Upon checking my program, it looks like you give the ability to create a Nuke Boot Disc, but his laptop doesn't accept floppies, just CDs/DVDs. How do you recommend that he wipe the data off his drive? He does have an external hard drive. Maybe he can use that to wipe the drive before replacing it, but I'm not sure how to go about doing it. Any help would be appreciated.

You'll probably need to use an alternative utility, one that goes below the data level to wipe every sector. DBAN nor Eraser can erase defective sectors.
