I recently used dariks boot and nuke to completely erase a 10 gig harddrive-gutmann 35 pass success-5hours 30 min. After reinstalling Windows I ran restoration utility to make sure dban worked. While going through the procedure I ran across 33 thousand remnants of files while 8%-18% through. The rest of the hard drive was blank. Two thirds of files I guess could have been introduced and deleted by reinstallation of Windows. Hundreds of .wmf files and hundreds of .jpg which seem to be parts of Windows. But there were also several thousand files which use all characters imaginable. None of which were recognizable. Are all these remnants of reinstallation?

are you sure you wiped all partitions?

This may be imaginary data generated by the restoration utility.
What was in the files.
