Dell Latitute C400

Please will somebody help me... i have made a correct boot cd (i have no floppy) and i have tried to boot it on my dell but for some damn reason nothing comes up. It shows my little Dell bios thing and then has a black screen. Does anybody know what i need to do to make it work? Possibly even boot when im in xp
