The erase verifier should perhaps pop up whilst erasing automatically to show the user what is going on. This could be perhaps part of the new erasing display animation.

It would also be nice to be able to scan an entire drive and go to any sector to actually view the result of an over written drive manually. Just like a Hex editor.

Take note of #8, may be an issue while porting.

I wonder if this is really really necessary, because I don't think it's part of the normal workflow. What do you all think?

If you think it will make Eraser much lighter and easier to maintain then I guess it could go.

I was waiting for a stable V6 before making a feature request but thinking about it the small request could help here and also help with Beta testing. I had a “modified” copy of Eraser some time ago that had a check box which could be set by the user to tell Eraser to delete the overwritten file or not.

What this meant was a user could right click “My secret file.doc” and select an erase method. Eraser would then use the selected pattern to overwrite the file but crucially Eraser didn’t delete the now overwritten file. Instead the user could use a hex editor to view it. OK I understand a user won’t see all the passes but they will at least be able to view the last one. More paranoid users could re-overwrite the overwritten file again I suppose until their personal level of paranoia had been reached.

I am assuming this modification would be simple and easy to implement and certainly much quicker than making a dedicated verifier. Of course the default setting for this feature request should be so that Eraser does delete the file after the last pass.

Thanks.
