Permissions in Windows 7

I cannot get Eraser to erase unused space on a hard drive because of the permissions. Even when I run Eraser as administrator, it errors out. Any suggestions? Sorry for the beginner question. I just got Windows 7 and the new Eraser (I liked XP and the old Eraser a lot better)
