DBAN does not write over bad sectors. They have to be repaired first, if they are recoverable at all. So, a technique might be (as long as there aren't too many bad ones) to run DBAN, run a bad sector repair utility, then run DBAN again to overwrite...
It's very important when deciding to wipe your hard disk drive to be prepared before you start. Do you have the install CDs for your two laptops? If not, you will need to contact the manufacturers to get them.

Does DBAN remove or overwrite bad sector blocks? Specifically for Win XP pro or higher.
This is a rather important question because that's where Rootkits hide. I need an application which can do this. TIA
