FWIW I have had to give up and remove eraser because of this problem, no matter whose problem it is. It certainly began for me after switching from a commercial av to avast. No combination/version of the MS C++ redistributable pkg that I could find, worked with it. 5.8.7 and 6 rc5 both do it...
