    I think you are trying to do a 35 pass erase or something, 4 days seems excessive. Run one of the faster erase cycles like 1 pass as it should finish much quicker. Tere halso be a disk issue where it cannot read the drive and just gets stuck in a loop

    if the disk is attached to your windows OS you might have permissions issues. The quick solution is to format the drive, then do a freespace erase and finally format it again. The last format is just to tidy up the file table.

    Unless you are giving the machine away just boot up with the XP disk and let it format the whole disk. To totally wipe the drive use DBAN.

    By stopping eraser in mid task means the space used by the erasing process remains un deleted. If you run eraser freespace erase again and this time let it finish you should get the space back.

    If you empty your recyclebin and then run a freespace erase you should eliminate traces of the files even if they were not erased in the first pass.

    This issue occurs when eraser has been unable to erase the dummy files created during a freespace erase. I suggest try to re-run the erase with or search for and delete the hidden directory eraserswp in the root of your drive
