    Windows 7 with 64 bit

Wayne, you can edit the registry without fear if you backup beforehand. If your edit messes up than you can easily restore the backup. A good free program for this is Erunt. Mine auto backs up every morning and I can also manually backup. http://www.larshederer.homepage.t-online.de/erunt

Not strictly an Eraser question but Id be gratefull...

is 1 pass pseudorandom data enough?

One pass is sufficient. Multiple overwrites provided better erasure on pre-2001 hard drives and floppy disks/diskettes. Tests by many organizations now conclude that multiple passes on modern drives amount to overkill. No one boasts of the ability to retrieve single-pass erased data.

Delete "Cluster Tips" before copying data?

When not erased, cluster tips contain deleted fragments which are hidden from the CD writer. They will not copy.

    Erasing USB key Drives

About once monthly I right click the flash drive(s) and erase with a single pass. If, over time, Pandora shows too many sensitive files not fully overwritten I run a free space erase, single pass. If my paranoia level is slightly elevated when erasing a single file I rename it with senseless...

Query about "Erasing Unused Space" on a hard drive.

I've read this thread beforehand. Perhaps I was too brief in my response. I should have replied that the magnetic data on the disk cannot be retrieved with any current equipment. As to copies dispersed to other places on the disk, that is another issue. I have found that in my eight years of...

Query about "Erasing Unused Space" on a hard drive.

There is virtually no chance of retrieving erased files with any equipment, unless the FBI/MI5 may have 'secret weapons'.

    ERAFEWD folders left behind.

Re: ERAFEWD files left behind. I have a 160 Gb drive and it took 1 hr 22 mins two days ago using a single pass including cluster tips. Are you erasing with more than a single pass? If yes, try the single pass. It is sufficient.
