In the help file of eraser is the answer to Question. Look in the folder "Advanced Topics", chapter "Overwriting Methods in detail". Don't get upset over the board software, it freguently is unreachable for me. People don't post offen because the things that didn't work when the beta first came...

I would do option 1, but I would bump it up to gutmann 35 passes, just to make sure all patient data is gone. Option 2 would be faster , but I still prefer option 1. Are you going to do a freespace wipe one after the other or try to get them to freespace wipe at the same time.
It should, I'm sure XP Pro has some form of Disk management. I am on XP Home. XP Pro just has networking utilitys and does a few thing different, no major differences.
Can't you use Computer Management/Disk Management to re partition and reformat the partitions , I just Put a OS on a blank drive and repartitioned it....but it was EIDE not a SATA Hard Drive.
Can cel phones be wiped after owner decides he wants to get rid of the phone in a manor similar to deleting a file in a computer's Hard Drive, ether by downloading Eraser or by connecting it to a computer's parallel port or something...
To unlock some of the files in the could not erase list, the could not erase list means the computer locked those files because they're in use by the computer. Killing those processes means the computer wont be running those programs and eraser can clean the cluster tips of those programs.
I do a freespace wipe at night when the computer is not used, I also kill all non-essential process so Eraser can get at more of the locked files. You can't do that and use the computer at the same time.

I beleve the number of times it is listed is related to the number of files on the computer, so the more files you have ....the more svchost.exe you will have. I have 4 svchost.exe .

Yea there should be a section in preferences where you can change the shortcut keys or a configuration file in the Program file where you can change the bind to's. Right now there doesn't seem to be anything.
I am on XP Home SP2, before a freespace wipe I Kill all non-critical process to keep the failed lost as short as possible. But it still windsup 2600 entrys. I am using Eraser 5.7. I used to save reports, but after a while you get to know which file is going to be on it.
