You were stating something that would mislead other users. There is actually a reference to this problem in the FAQ section.
I do however agree with you that the search engine on the forum could be better.
To answer you last question, well, err…yes. :(
Hi
Sorry to hear about your problems with Eraser.
Are you sure you have the latest version of Eraser installed ?
Eraser V6 is due in a few months which should address most if not all problems with Vista.
You can follow the progress here.
The files were removed. They are created like normal files until all the free space is occupied (in order to overwrite all the free space) then they are deleted. So they are no longer there, if that makes any sense !
What you are viewing is random junk, which is worth nothing to...
Hi
The files you are finding are the ones Eraser creates and then deletes in order to overwrite the free space. It is normal and shows that Eraser is working for you.
Safe mode may release some files “I think” but I wouldn’t worry about this too much.
Hi technomancer :)
I have just tried this myself with two computers. One with XP Pro SP2 and one with XP Pro SP3. I couldn’t replicate your bug find.
Can you give any more information please ?
Do you have a service pack installed ?
Are you using XP Pro or home ?
Any other settings you...
Hi SAS
I would have thought reformatting would be sufficient to delete a virus but if you really want to totally erase the drive then DBAN may be more suitable for you.
Hi
That is probably not so considering you said the following.
If you did perform the free-space wipe then there shouldn’t have been any files left to recover.
Would you please take the time to double check your findings please ?
Just perform a single pseudorandom pass on your drives...
Hi casilda
I think DBAN would be more suitable for your needs. You can make a bootable CD with DBAN.
Be aware though everything will be overwritten when using DBAN !!!!
Hi thatman :)
I think I have seen this before. If you are using the pseudorandom option I think it just so happens that Eraser has made a file extension .txt or . jpg for example.
Also I wonder if your recovery program is listing active files on your hard drive, the ones you are using. Some...
Hi thatman :)
Are you absolutely certain that the results you are getting from your data recovery programs are correct ?
Are they actually files that you have deleted and not simply the files Eraser uses to overwrite free space ?
Are you certain the files your recovery program is finding are...
Hi
The one pass pseudorandom option will be secure enough for most applications. It will stop all software recovery and on modern hard drives probably stop most other means as well.
Hi RTX
Security. Although you may not need that level of security so weekly or monthly may suit your needs.
Do you know the date and time you are going to be burgled ? If not then I suggest you protect your data and privacy by employing Truecrypt for encryption and Eraser for secure data...
Just delete everything as normal, empty your recycle bin and perform a free-space wipe with a single pseudorandom pass. That will erase everything you have ever deleted but keep your current data.
Eraser V6 may eventually have a plug-in, you could always make a request for this feature...
