Eraser keeping a history in the schedule is quite a privacy leak. Anyone who wants to go snooping would look in the Eraser history to find names of erased files !
Admittedly they would only retrieve the file names such as “My secret document.doc” but that is evidence / proof that the user had...

Can I ask why you choose the 7 pass ? Have you seen or heard of evidence that a single pseudorandom pass is insecure ?

If you want to completely wipe the entire disk then DBAN might be better for you.
Be warned though DBAN will wipe the ENTIRE disk so if you want to keep anything then you need to back up ! :shock:

I understand FAT will die out but I was mainly concerned about flash drives etc. But as you say these will eventually get big enough to use NTFS.

I have campaigned about this for quite some time now. A single pseudorandom pass will be very secure on everything with the possible exception of very, very old hard drives. If you are extremely paranoid then you could make 2 passes.

This would be a massive step backwards for Eraser if it was unable to wipe FAT or FAT32 properly. :shock:
It would mean Eraser V6 could not be recommended to users for wiping floppy disks, flash drives, SD cards and some hard drives !!!
