    just a blinking cursor

my guess is you have used DBAN which is bundled with Eraser, but which has nothing to do with the actual Eraser product itself (I presume its DBAN as you said you wiped the hard drive). There is a seperate board for DBAN queries, perhaps it might be better to post the query in that forum? The...

Finally figured out my original email address and postings.

Re: Finally figured out my original email address and postin This sounds like a strange problem, but I can't see how it can be connected to eraser. You have to have a msconfig, otherwise your computer wouldn't be able to run. Have you tried typing msconfig in the run box?

Full drive wipe on external drive.

use DBAN for wiping a hard drive. Eraser isn't designed for this purpose. DBAN comes bundled with Eraser, or can be downloaded seperately from dban.sourceforge.net. The download can be burned to CD, as well as being ran from floppy disk. There is a DBAN forum if you have any queries, it can...

    erase slave drive

I think it might be best for you to ask the question over at the DBAN board. I only have one drive with 2 partitions, but I'm aware that DBAN recognises every drive but may not necessarily indicate which is which. As I'm not sure, I wouldn't like to give to the wrong advice! The DBAN forum...

Can't get DBAN to work, help please.

I forgot to mention: the beta release of DBAN works perfectly well for me, as well as the last stable release of DBAN. Both are available from that particular page. Basically you download the file to your desktop or whatever and then click on the file. With my computer it starts up my CD...

Can't get DBAN to work, help please.

I run DBAN from a CD-R. Although DBAN is bundled with Eraser, it is also available as a stand-alone download. It can be downloaded and burned to a bootable CD-R. See http://dban.sourceforge.net/ and the FAQ for copying / burning to CD rather than copying to a floppy.

Erasing free & slack space BEFORE starting XP?

I don't know about that, but I sometimes do a file slack wipe in Safe Mode, logged in as Administrator. I find that only 300 or so files are locked, rather than a few thousand when ran in normal mode. I still do a free space wipe in normal mode though, as I find it takes too long in Safe Mode.

    erase slave drive

there is a stand alone version of DBAN which enables you to run DBAN from CD (it's the version I use). see http://dban.sourceforge.net/ for everything you need.

    Windows Media Centre Problem

this is the eraser forum, the DBAN forum is over that way -----> ;) http://www.snugserver.com/phpbb2/viewforum.php?f=6 It depends on the size of the hard drive. Mine is 80GB. I usually do a 4 pass PRNG wipe with the final pass verified , which takes about 2.5 to 3 hours in total. I've...

GDI Error: Can Not Compute Text Size

I only ever use the freespace wipe when nothing else is running and after the run is finished I always restart the computer. I once had a few small problems using the computer after a freespace wipe and found a restart cleared them.

    System Restore

I was under the impression that running a freespace wipe with Eraser caused System Restore to be turned off when disk space runs low. As I always turn off SR before a freespace wipe, I've never had to test this. I know that Jetico's BC Wipe prompts the user to turn off System Restore prior to...

A couple of questions regarding DBAN!!

    1. As far as I am aware DBAN automatically recognises every partition on a computer, though my experience is limited to a singkle hardrive with only two partitions! 2. It depends who wants to go to great lengths to recover your data! After 9 passes, it would have to be something expensive...

    free space and unused space

free space and unused space are literally the same thing. And a wipe of free space shoudn't hurt your computer as it avoids your files.

What is the exact procedure for deleting files to RB?

650MB is quite a hefty sized file and I'd imagine it would take sometime! Out of interest, how long did it take?

What is the exact procedure for deleting files to RB?

There's a post - and you'd have to dig well into the past of this forum to find it - about someone who had a similar query as yours. The answer was similar to mine, but was a bit more technical. It involved creating a folder to securely move the files to (if you like, a replacement RB but...

What is the exact procedure for deleting files to RB?

The Recycle Bin is just a folder like any other on Windows. If you move a file there, a record will be left. Perhaps not the original file itself but a pointer towards it. If you want to securely delete a file or folder, far better to use eraser and just wipe it. If you have a need for...

Running DBAN on a partition rather than an entire disk

Thanks for the answers. Partition 1 (the recovery partition) is listed in the Disk Manager. As the partition is little over 3GB in size, which doesn't add much time to a full disk wipe, and as it takes less than half an hour from inserting the Reinstallation/Recovery disk, through to the disk...

Running DBAN on a partition rather than an entire disk

I can remember a post (from a while ago) where someone once asked a question about how to determine that a particular partition that showed on DBAN matched a particular partition on the disk that was to be wiped. I'm sure someone replied that it wasn't always possible to determine this and that...
