    SSD Cache

You may want to also disable write-back caching on your mobo BIOS before you do an unused space erase... otherwise you'd have wasted many, many program/erase cycles on your SSD... But yes, there's no way to securely erase the data on the SSD, so sensitive information could be lurking anywhere...

after some general advice and reccomendation

This could be potentially extreme, but what I do in such situations is being an OS on a USB key (Ubuntu is good) and boot up from it. Do my work there; don't even bother booting up to Windows.

Eraser 6.0.10.2620 does not complete task in Limited account

Re: Eraser 6.0.10.2620 does not complete task in Limited acc Okay, can you list the drives plugged into your computer, including virtual drives (eg TrueCrypt volumes) and any external media or optical drives on your computer? I think the recycle bin enumeration code is encountering some problems.

    [v6] Eraser Quick Walkthrough

HowToAnswer has recently done a short article on the basic usage of Eraser. If you really want to dive right in without reading the manual, this would be it. A slightly longer version dealing with more questions and concepts has been contributed by David.

    Suspiciously fast completion

Can you double-check that the task indeed is doing an Unused Space Erase (Drive Letter:) in the Task Properties dialog? If that's correctly set, can you copy and paste the task log here? Select the entries and right-click on them to show the context menu.

Raise the Priority of Eraser Task Manager?

There's nothing stopping you from doing so; however there are negligible gains (if any in the first place) by doing so. Most of the time Eraser runs as fast as your disk can handle. The disk is thus your bottleneck. The priority set by Task Manager is really the CPU priority, so increasing it...

Eraser 6.0.10.2620 does not complete task in Limited account

Re: Eraser 6.0.10.2620 does not complete task in Limited acc So, even when the task is running, the icon in the system notification area is flashing, double-clicking on the running task will show you the task properties dialog?! Did I understand you correctly?

Re: Small amount of space left after wipe. Damn. I totally mis-read your original post. Yes, yes, the little bit of space is normal and expected. Windows creates files which we cannot see in the System Volume Information folder. It's locked up, and unless you do some Windows wizardry, you...

Manual Update Using Check for Updates

Ah, I see why now: the code is indeed reporting 6.0.9 to the server. I'll fix the code but I don't think at this point it is worth the effort pulling the version from SourceForge, building another version and re-releasing another 6.0.10. Please comment if you think the version should be...

Eraser 6.0.10.2620 does not complete task in Limited account

Re: Eraser 6.0.10.2620 does not complete task in Limited acc What are you erasing on your work computer? Is it restricted to any file or is it a situation where no files at all will be erased? When you double-click on the task while it is running, what does the dialog say? Is there any disc...

    Harddrive?

Yes, but then why erase it? Deleting it would work just as well, if you are not concerned about the residue which remains on your disk. And by residue I mean data that can be recovered by forensic analysis, not that it is accessible by default any more.

Re: Small amount of space left after wipe. You'd best test out using a recovery tool or run the task again. My guess is that the erase did not complete successfully, hence I asked for a task log for the first round.

Re: Small amount of space left after wipe. Yes, that file belongs to the drive, Windows creates it automatically.

Re: Small amount of space left after wipe. I don't think so. My guess is that the 123MB left was space the system released after seeing that the disk was getting full. Eraser does try to squeeze every bit of space out of the disk, but sometimes the system outsmarts the algorithm. I'm guessing...

Re: Small amount of space left after wipe. It's probably an error in the unused drive space erase. If you've got the task still lying around, could you copy and paste the log here for that task? I think the "could not delete Recycle Bin" error is for the full disk task you did. The immediate...

Re: Small amount of space left after wipe. Strange. It should not want to delete your recycle bin folder. Could you double-check that it is an unused space erasure and that you did not accidentally set it as a Folder erase? This is Eraser 6.0.10.2620 right?

Re: Small amount of space left after wipe. Could you copy and paste the log here? Right-click the task, View Log, filter the long to only Errors and above, select the entries, right-click on them and click Copy Selected Entries. Paste the text here.

    Directory Entry cleaning

Directory entry cleaning will scrub old file names and file metadata of deleted files from the MFT for NTFS, or the directory indices in FAT.
