i dont think the wipe worked

It will say "DBAN succeeded. All selected disks have been wiped" if there were no problems. Past that, you need to unzip the tgz file and read through it.

i dont think the wipe worked

The dmesg.txt file in the log says: hda: dma_intr: error=0x40 { UncorrectableError }, LBAsect=1907373, sector=1907344 This means that the disk has bad sectors. DBAN reported an error because it could not verify that the disk was empty. You should physically destroy this disk.

Okay, mail that file to the email address given on the DBAN home page or in the DBAN readme file.

i dont think the wipe worked

I still need this information. After the blue screen disappeared, what did DBAN say in bright white letters on the black background?

    Just a few questions

DBAN will say "successful" on the screen. The first. Partitions within this disk will be marked "[****]". Yes. Yes, or the operating system will not be installed.

    partitions don't show up

Remember that you can use Heidi Eraser to do a freespace wipe on these partitions. Just format the partition prior. DBAN is most useful for wiping a system partition.

    partitions don't show up

First, the partition numbers that you can see in DBAN do not always correspond to the drive letters used by Microsoft Windows. Be careful. Second, running Windows ME with 12 partitions is unusual. DBAN does not show partitions if there is anything unusual in the partition table.

Promise SATA 150 TX2 Plus controllers

DBAN has most of the SATA drivers from the Linux 2.6 kernel, btw. The innards of the Linux 2.4 kernel are stable and reliable. DBAN will likely stay with Linux 2.4 so long as drivers for current hardware are being backported from the Linux 2.6 branch. There is a possibility that DBAN...

'create Nuke Boot Disk' is not working. Help!

Go to http://dban.sourceforge.net/ and download the latest ISO file. Burn this file to CD-R or CD-RW media with burning software. The FAQ has links to burning software if you do not already have it.

DBAN n00b -- am I being patient or foolish??

DBAN has crashed, most likely on a bad driver. Push the reset button and try it again with "verbose" instead of "autonuke" and report where it stops. Also try another boot floppy.

How do I re-set to boot from HD following wipe?

This is normal because the hard drive will not be bootable until an operating system is installed.

How do I re-set to boot from HD following wipe?

The BIOS setup program is particular to the motherboard in your computer. Somebody might help if you provide hardware model information.

How do I read the log and did i do everything correct?

No. Wipe each disk separately. One or both likely have bad sectors.

How do I read the log and did i do everything correct?

You must insert a floppy disk to get the log file if you are running DBAN from CD-R. A log file viewer will eventually be added to DBAN.

Am having trouble creating floppy disk or CDROM.

Which DBAN release are you using? The dban-1.0.6 release should not be unzipped unless you are trying to create the floppy media on a Linux computer. Just double-click the EXE file.

    Ran DBAN -- computer crashed

Perhaps the hardware just coincidentally failed. Did you download DBAN from http://dban.sourceforge.net/ ? This is the only place to get the official release. There are several modified releases of DBAN being distributed, which are unsupported.

No display when using DBAN bootdisk

Please report the manufacturer and model of the hardware, and send the log file from the quick wipe.
