It will say "DBAN succeeded. All selected disks have been wiped" if there were no problems.
Past that, you need to unzip the tgz file and read through it.

This means that the disk has bad sectors. DBAN reported an error because it could not verify that the disk was empty.

Remember that you can use Heidi Eraser to do a freespace wipe on these partitions. Just format the partition prior.
DBAN is most useful for wiping a system partition.
First, the partition numbers that you can see in DBAN do not always correspond to the drive letters used by Microsoft Windows. Be careful.
Second, running Windows ME with 12 partitions is unusual. DBAN does not show partitions if there is anything unusual in the partition table.
DBAN has most of the SATA drivers from the Linux 2.6 kernel, btw.
The innards of the Linux 2.4 kernel are stable and reliable. DBAN will likely stay with Linux 2.4 so long as drivers for current hardware are being backported from the Linux 2.6 branch.

Go to http://dban.sourceforge.net/ and download the latest ISO file. Burn this file to CD-R or CD-RW media with burning software. The FAQ has links to burning software if you do not already have it.
DBAN has crashed, most likely on a bad driver. Push the reset button and try it again with "verbose" instead of "autonuke" and report where it stops.
Also try another boot floppy.
Which DBAN release are you using?
The dban-1.0.6 release should not be unzipped unless you are trying to create the floppy media on a Linux computer. Just double-click the EXE file.
Perhaps the hardware just coincidentally failed.
Did you download DBAN from http://dban.sourceforge.net/ ? This is the only place to get the official release.
There are several modified releases of DBAN being distributed, which are unsupported.
