Challenge
It will be interesting to see the conclusion to this. :)
If proved correct, this will save hard drives from unnecessary wear and Eraser users a lot of time !!
A single pseudorandom pass has been my favourite method for some years now. I suspect it will stay that way ! :D
Hi doreen2202 :D
Nice to hear from you again ! :D
I hope you are going to help us out and do some Beta testing and make some feature requests for us !
Hi smartins
I am sorry to hear you are having trouble with Eraser.
There have been threads discussing your issue before here on the forums and I wonder if you wouldn’t mind reading the two links below and trying the suggestions there so we don’t keep repeating things here on this thread...
Hi GregM
I am sorry I don’t have Vista otherwise I would try it for you.
If you are very worried why not just delete the recycle bin as normal and then wipe the free space every now and then ? At least that should cover you in most situations until Eraser V6 is released.
Please keep checking...
Hi
I found this thread here, which does explain things a little further with something of a workaround.
However it does appear that we will have to wait until Eraser V6 is out and hopefully this problem will be sorted out.
All I can suggest until then is keep checking the release versions of...
Hello !
Well I guess I shall be the first to post in the shiny new Eraser forensic forum ! :D
I suppose a good place to start would be (assuming no third party software is installed) what are the areas on a hard drive with a standard Windows + Office installation that could be a threat to a...
Hi binolandia
Thank you for sticking with this, we do need to find out what the problem actually is. It is very important to Eraser and its users that it functions correctly on all computers.
The only thing I can think of and this is purely guessing is that it may be something to do with the...
Arrgghh, oh, well !
Sorry about that nvcowboy, it was just a guess anyway.
Perhaps you could revert back to whichever version of Eraser worked for you before and use your .ers files again. I would just hang on in there and wait for Eraser V6 which is under serious development at the...
Hi :)
I don’t know the answer to your specific question but I did find this thread which makes me wonder if the old style .ers files won’t work with the new release or if it is just that their location has changed.
Hi Nobelrichy
Thank you for coming back.
Is the drive encrypted or compressed ?
Could anything have blocked access to it part way through the process ? Back up software, anti virus etc ?
I know you said the drive is NTFS but is the partition you are erasing formatted ?
If there is none of...
Hi Nobelrichy
I am sorry you are having trouble with Eraser.
Have you disabled UAC ? Instructions here.
Do you have the necessary permissions for that drive ?
Could the drive be damaged ?
How is the drive formatted ?
Is the drive attached physically to your computer or is it over a network ?
Hi Carver.
It is interesting that you have also had the same problem, “misiek_to_ja” and you both have Western Digital drives. Can I ask if your drives are SATA too ?
Would you say the problem you experienced with your WD drives was because of the first and last 2KB ? I know you did have...
Hi Carver :)
You are right that the first and last 2KB overwrite method on older versions of Eraser did have a bug.
However,
As far as I know this was fixed quite some time ago so you should be able to use the first and last 2KB method with confidence.
I have personally tried it and it...
Hi
I very occasionally get this, I tend to find it is either my anti virus or antispyware program that has hold of it.
If I leave the target file closed for a few minutes it does eventually become unlocked.
Could you try this please ?
There once was talk on here that Comodo firewall locked...
This accusation is more commonly thrown at encryption software. The usual question is “if you have got nothing to hide then why do you need to encrypt it ?”. Well, the next time you hear that little gem from someone ask to look through the contents of their pockets or bag, when they object ask...
