Hi
Thank you for the information as to how you use Eraser.
It is nice to see someone taking their customers data security seriously !
Anyway I have remembered something else, I think there is a setting somewhere (I have tried looking but no luck yet) that allows you to set whether the USB...
Hi gilean23
I am sorry it wasn’t the AV, but thank you for trying that out and letting me know the result.
It could very well be an Eraser issue and if so I suspect Joel will know what it is. You have given a lot of good information and I am sure he will read this thread soon...
Hi gilean23
I have had this happen to me before, but not with Eraser.
I think I discovered it was my AntiVirus in the end. Any chance you could try disabling it as a test ?
That’s interesting, thank you for the explanation.
I was going to make some suggestions for V6 here but it all got a little too complicated and so I talked myself out of it !
Please try to install it again, but remember to uninstall your previous version first. I would also suggest you download it again from here in case your download was corrupted.
The latest version is 5.86a. It has many bug fixes since 5.7
I would say that would be more than adequate. You only need to perform a single pseudorandom pass when overwriting, that will give you very good security.
Hi
Then you should be able to run the latest version of Eraser. What problems do you have when trying to install later versions of Eraser ?
V6 is on its way which I believe will solve most if not all problems.
Hi jon :)
Firstly back up anything you want to keep !
You can simply delete your private data using the windows delete key. Then use Eraser to “Erase Unused Space”. This will overwrite anything you have deleted.
If you want to make sure you have remembered everything to delete you could...
Hi
Just turn off your computer and start it again.
When DBAN boots set the wipe method to a single pass and run it.
A single pseudorandom pass will defeat all software recovery programs and probably cause the NSA some problems too !!
Hi
That’s really good news, thanks for posting back to let me know the outcome.
I hope you will continue to use DBAN and Eraser now your computer is working ok.
Well done I couldn’t have done it without you !
Just a thought, if you have a friend who knows a little about computers get...
Probably in advanced bios features.
That’s hot especially considering you are only in BIOS.
I suspect your processor is shutting down due to excessive heat. It will get hotter while booting up as it is doing more work, you probably don’t get to exactly the same position in the boot up when...
Hi
Yes you need to have heat compound between the processor and the heat-sink. This could very well be the cause.
Also if you weren’t careful when replacing the heat-sink (very tight clip) you could have damaged the processor !
I would suspect heat to be the problem here. At least it...
Hi
This suggests that the problem isn’t with your hard drives at all.
I am wondering if your CPU fan is working ?
If you have more than 1 RAM stick take them all out but one of them and see if you can run memtest. If not swap it with one of the others.
Can you swap memory with the working...
