This is a permissions issue - i assume logged in as administrator it works? Eraser needs low level access to the drives.

It installs and works perfectly here - what is the sequence of events you are using to cause it to fail? Have you tried running as administrator?

Shutdown eraser and then right click on the exe and run as administrator - what happens?

Do you stiull have this issue? Eraser creates a task for each job and should delete any ad-hoc tasks once completed.

Hi David, have you turned off your anti virus? Also, run chkdsk to see if there are any drive issues and delete the temp directory created by eraser.

The actual issue is that you are trying to erase directories locked by the OS. Probably DLL's in use in that directory. To wipe the C drive you really need to boot up with something like DBAN and wipe at the OS level.

Eraser won't uninstall applications if that is what you mean. It can wipe the directories of those applications which is not a good idea as you now have an improperly uninstalled version of Office etc

If you try to erase the root drive the process will not work as you cannot erase the operating system from within eraser. Your best option is to use DBAN in that instance, another option is to reinstall windows with the format drive option and then run a freespace erase on the entire drive...

did you try a freespace wipe or a complete drive wipe? if it was a freespace wipe you should be ok. Look for the eraser.tmp folder in the root of the drive and delete that if you interrupted the erase process. Eraser wont wipe a cd but what might have happened was the cd burner started filling...

Over the years we have changed installer engine and this may have been the cause as each uninstall would then roll back to the previous one etc. I'll check the current installer on a clean machine image

Instead of being so vitriolic maybe understand this a volunteer effort and free. Perhaps submit an alternative wording, and we will consider this.

In this scenario eraser just manifested a hardware issue either the drive has bad blocks or it overheated because the fan is not working correctly.

These are probably artefacts left by temp files. e.g. when you edit a word document a temp file is created, you should run a free space erase to catch these types.

Start by installing the latest version

The run time is only included to cater for the many possible clients - if your machine is patched to the latest Eraser should install ok.
