My personal opinion about Eraser 6 - Pros and Cons

This seems like a bug in the update checker. Could you download and try this version: http://eraser.heidi.ie/download.php?id=292 Here I can erase with no internet or router attached. You should not have to make firewall changes as eraser will use standard browsing to determine if any updates...

Try turning off your virus scanner and see if that changes anything.

    Helping a newbie!

Unless you are giving the machine away just boot up with the XP disk and let it format the whole disk. To totally wipe the drive use DBAN.

    Help, lost 50gb of diskspace

By stopping eraser in mid task means the space used by the erasing process remains un deleted. If you run eraser freespace erase again and this time let it finish you should get the space back.

My personal opinion about Eraser 6 - Pros and Cons

We moved to Eraser 6 and .Net because volunteers could not be found for the C++ version. Currently Joel is busy in university and I'm limited in the amount of time I can spend on the project. I do agree the .NET version is a lot less compact but that is the cost of progress. >>every version of...

The feedback is shown in the task manager, you can also start the task running immediatly. Areyou saying it queued the task and did nothing?

    Server2012 Support

No reason why not. If the machine has SSD drives then take note of the issues there.

    properly erase

If you empty your recyclebin and then run a freespace erase you should eliminate traces of the files even if they were not erased in the first pass.

    properly erase

Could you upload a screenshot - if it has errors then there is an issue. Are these local drives or network connected?

Its safe to restart the process

Lost allmy unsed space!!!! an can't recover it.

This issue occurs when eraser has been unable to erase the dummy files created during a freespace erase. I suggest try to re-run the erase with or search for and delete the hidden directory eraserswp in the root of your drive

    other programs bundled with Eraser

I think these were added by CNET, we do NOT bundle anything with eraser.

External drive no longer visible after using eraser

I assume you wiped the drive completely? Connecting/reconnecting not working? Its possible the drive has crashed after the 35 pass erase. It might have been on the verge of failure or it needs low level formatting. Check the manufactures sites for the issue of not seeing the drive.

Eraser appears to have corrupted volume boot record?

more like fix your drive. I'd check the drive and make sure its not about to fail.

    Eraser 6 slow on start

The .Net runtime has to load up with Eraser when you run the screens. Sadly this is never going to match the old V5 for speed as .NET has to interpret the code rather than actually execute binary :(

Data from before a system restore

The registry can store almost anything - its up the the software app itself. To be 100% you have to wipe that also.

    Eraser 6 slow on start

This is probably the .Net runtime loading. Once its started up the app should be just as snappy as before. - Perhaps your AV app is rescanning the exe every time. Is there any speed improvement after several right clicking sessions?

    Error Msg: ...Eraser already installed

These sound like installer issues - try installing ccleaner and using it to remove the entry for eraser from the install registry then try reinstalling.
