have you tried downloading eraser portable? This you can run from a USB key.

Seems you might have registry issues, if you startup the 32bit version of explorer you can still use the 32bit version of eraser.

Install eraser and then right click onthe file you want to erase. Very simple :)

I think eraser might be waiting to connect to the two network drives when it tries erasing - this would explain the delay.

when you delete a file its pointer is moved to the recycle disk location. if you have been editing this file you may need to run a free space erase as well to ensure no fragments remain.

Sounds like you need to create a transactional type entry in the queue showing the file was erased and then cleared after - You will have to modify the source for this.

See under eraser settings the check box for plausible identity - also you could created an encrypted container via true crypt and use that to store your files. Then erasing the container is just one file.

Did the app finish or crash? If it crashed you need to restart the process.

I'm not sure if you can take it apart but you could remove the drives and attach them to a PC and wipe from there.

Did you choose 1 pass or 35? Either way it needs to fill all free space and this will take time on a 197GB drive.

Could be something is interfering - have you tried booting into safe mode and trying from there?
