Erasing unused space only does that. These files can still exist in the system restore section or recycle bin of that drive all marked as undeleted. I suggest you format the drive and then run a free space erase of 1 pass.

In your case you must be running some application which interferes with eraser e.g some Anti-Virus/Malware or undelete tracker? Shut all these down and retry. There is also the possibility the drive is at fault - run a check disk.

You only need to do a 1 pass erase, this will render any data on the drive useless to the casual observer. To achieve this, format the drive and then do a free space erase.

The nature of the SSD design makes it impossible to really erase in the true sense, also running eraser on an SSD will actually shorten its operational life. The best option is to use http://www.truecrypt.org and create a container on the drive.

Download the 5.7 version from sourceforge as it could be an issue with the older XP OS. 5.7 will do the same job just in an older interface :)

Correct, wiping unused space cleans the drive of previously deleted files. Remember to empty the recycle bin first.

It is possible either your AV application is affecting the process or you have an issue with the drive. Run chkdsk to verify the disk.

when you right click on EraserSetup32.exe and select properties do you see the digital signature tab and if so does it verify ok?
