Add task error: ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND

I seem to have got the same / similar problem:

Started Eraser after downloading file (version 6.0.6.1376). Went to task scheduler to create my first erasure task. Clicked on ADD DATA at bottom left of Task Properties panel. Resulted in error panel with data as below:


Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. (more general text about quit and continue).

The system cannot find the file specified (Exception from HRESULT:0x80070002)

Can you state all your drives and partitions and corresponding mount points (e.g. drive letters or NTFS mount folders), as well as the configuration of your disk controllers?

Hi Joel,

Wow - you are asking a non techie what seem like some awful techie questions!!

In simple terms (for me, not you) I am running 2 drives, one being the on board C (with no sub partitions or anything - NTFS) where all the operating system is stored and an external hard drive (simple drive E - FAT32). The operating system is XP Home with SP3. The drives are both single partition. Eraser is stored / running on the C drive.

I have not done anything to modify settings so I assume the configuration is 'standard' if there is such a thing with Windows.

If I have not given you enough information tell me where to look in my system and I will respond.

Sorry about this but I am an engineer and not a computer expert!

Eraser Crash

NEVERMIND... I figured it out. I had daemon tools lite installed and I think the virtual drive was causing the error.

I have just installed Eraser 6.0.6.1376 and I am getting a crash when I click the "Add Data" button while adding a new task. Below you will find my machine and OS stats and the debugging text of the error.

Oh, wait, it is? THANK YOU. I'll go install it in my virtual machine and attempt to replicate it. It's not strictly A DT problem, it's the way we deal with drives that (apparently) has got a problem. I needed a test case to find the problem so you just told me how to repro it -- wait for my response on the fix.

Wait, no, it isn't. I installed DT 4.35.5.68 and Eraser works perfectly fine. What operating system are you using (and whether you are using 64-bit Windows)

Not sure what version of Daemon Tools Lite I was using but it was recent, installed maybe 2 months ago?

As soon as I uninstalled DTL and rebooted Eraser worked fine and I quit getting the error.
