Best Method to Remove Duplicate Files on Mac?

When my Mac first started slowing down, I figured it was simply getting old. Apps lagged, storage warnings kept popping up, and I constantly deleted random files just to free a little space. But eventually, I discovered the real problem—duplicate files were hiding everywhere. I had multiple copies of the same photos imported from different devices, documents saved under different names in different folders, and videos I didn’t even remember downloading. Every time I opened a new folder, I found more duplicates piling up.

Trying to clean everything manually turned into a frustrating chore. I kept comparing filenames, opening previews, and double-checking sizes just to make sure I wasn’t deleting something important. It felt endless—like trying to organize a messy room where every drawer hid another surprise.

That’s when I tried the SysInfo Duplicate Finder and Remover. I added all the folders I wanted scanned, and within minutes it checked everything—deep inside subfolders, across different file types, and even files with different extensions. It identified duplicates by content and name, clearly showing which files were unique and which were unnecessary copies. What made it even easier was the option to permanently delete duplicates or move them into a separate folder so I could review them later.

Once I cleared them out, my Mac felt lighter and faster almost immediately. No more constant storage warnings, and no more digging through cluttered folders. I realized that the best method to remove duplicate files isn’t doing it manually—it’s using a tool that can actually understand your file system and clean it efficiently.
