Cluster tips on backup CD/DVD

What if you take a backup of an hard disk on CD/DVD/...?

Is the clustertips information copied to the backup media? Or does the backup media have another clustersize?

So essentially: do we need to wipe the hard disk before we take a backup?
 
It depends on what you mean by backup. If the backup application stores the data as one archive file (say, a compressed zip or something which only occupies one file) and it doesn't do sector recovery (like, it is file-system aware) then the backup will not have cluster tips (except of the backup file itself)

Thus, it really depends on what application you're using.
