hello,
I wondered whether PRNG 8-Pass is more secure than the Gutmann method. When I erased my hdd with DBAN 1.0.1, I noticed that with PRNG 8 Pass it took only ~ 20% of the time a Gutmann wipe needs.
It is stated, that PRNG is probably the best method to use with modern hard drives. On what paper/literature is that statement based?
Btw, I'm not looking for 100% security, I know that this is only reached with physical destruction or exposition in a magnetic field with about 1.5 T or above.
