dban partition size limit?

firstly, does a dban boot cd need a version of dos imaged with it?
secondly, either way does dban have the same 2gb partition limit as eraserd.exe, when dealing with the overwriting of free space

No, because dwipe runs on Linux. This also means that DBAN doesn't suffer from any limitations imposed by DOS.

Yes, the DOS command line program "eraserd.exe" is unable to erase free disk space on drives larger then 2Gb. However, the Windows version has no such limitation.
