Deleteing Free Space

Does anyone here have a general understanding of free space? If so I wanted to know why i wiped my external drive with CC cleaner. I have a program called disk digger to view if it has been deleted . it worked on my sd cards and erased most of the sectors on my external drive except one movie that wont delete. ughhh. driving me nuts lol. does anyone have any serious tips. i can provide more information if you need it thank you :D
 
Freespace is the unallocated space in the partition. For example Drive C is really a partion named C and in there the unallocated space is the 'freespace' eraser will try to wipe. These days most laptops have 2+ partitions on the physical disk to store the OS and recovery data. Access to the recovery data is usually via a special boot sequence.
