Drive not recougnised

Tried to erase unused space on a 1TB disk only to find it is no longer is recognized by the computer. The drive is spinning. I have tried some data recovery software but the drive is not picked up.

Any ideas?

Is this an external USB drive? If so, try plugging it into another port, to see if the device is detected. If that doesn't work, try plugging it into another machine if you can, to see if it's the drive or the computer causing the problem. I've also had specific issues with branded drives (notably LaCie), which have been resolved by finding support information on the manufacturer's website.
