Erase hard drive but not operating system, possible?

Hi,

I am a beginner so please be patient with me...... I want to erase my hard drive (as it is infected with a virus) but maintain the operating system (windows xp).


i.e. everything is erased but windows still works and all I need to do is load office etc.

Is this possible and if so how?

no, it is not.

the virus or rootkit might have become part of your system and is attached to data or services that your os uses.

i´d trie a scanner first,
