Eraser report lists many failures

Being quite the novice, not sure if this normal or not. After running eraser and viewing the report, I find that there are probably at least one thousand instances that eraser failed to overwrite files that actually have names. Confused because I thought eraser only overwrote "unused" disk space? ( yes, I know that unused disk space is probably old, already used disk space.) Are so many overwrite failures normal? How do I know that these failures do not contain sensitive data? Please, will someone school me. Any and all insight is so greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You probably did an unused space erasure and enabled cluster tip erasure -- those are files in which cluster tips can't be erased. If you are using an unused space erasure then those errors are indeed normal.
