Erasing USB External Hard Drive

I have just installed Eraser because I was to securely erase all deleted files on my disks.
I am in the testing phase and have deleted all the files on en external USB Hard drive. Using a recovery program I have ascertained that they are still able to be recovered.
I have run Eraser on the this drive using 'Run Immediate' and Erase Free Space.
The program returns immediately with a 'Completed with errors' message have not done anything.

Can you please tell me what I am doing wrong.
