To import Outlook PST files into Thunderbird, you can choose between manual methods and automated tools. Here’s a structured guide on how to proceed.
Manual Methods
Method 1: Using Outlook and Thunderbird Together
If both Outlook and Thunderbird are installed on the same machine, follow these steps:- Go to Control Panel > Programs > Set your default programs.
- Select Outlook and click Set this program as default.
- Open Thunderbird.
- Click on the Menu button, then go to Tools > Import.
- Choose Mail, select Outlook, and click Next.
- Follow the prompts to complete the import process.
Method 2: Convert PST to MBOX
Since Thunderbird does not support PST files directly, you can convert your PST files to MBOX format, which Thunderbird can import:- Use a conversion tool (like MailStore Home or a PST converter) to convert PST files into MBOX format.
- In Thunderbird, go to Tools > Import, select the MBOX files, and complete the import.
Automated Methods
Method 1: Using Outlook PST Converter Tools
Using dedicated software can simplify the process significantly. Here’s how:- Download and install the Cigati PST Converter Tool.
- Run the software and select the PST file(s) you want to import.
- Choose Thunderbird as the output format.
- Start the conversion process, which will directly create an MBOX file compatible with Thunderbird.
Method 2: Google Takeout (if Gmail is set up in Outlook)
If you have configured Gmail in Outlook, you can use Google Takeout:- Drag emails from Outlook into a Gmail folder.
- Use Google Takeout to download those emails.
- Import the downloaded emails into Thunderbird after setting up your Gmail account in it.
