I ran a search on my system (windows xp) and came up with 35 index.dat files...... do all of these track internet activities? thx!
 
Yes they do and you need spiderbite or spybot to clean them - search the forum for the url.
OR
You can create a New Task in the Eraser Scheduler to Erase Index.dat on Reboot.
