When you visit certain website pages, browser’s cache(helps pages load faster) and cookies(files created by websites you’ve visited) would be stored on your computer. You should know that clearing your browser’s cache and cookies would erase the website settings such as usernames and passwords and some websites would be opened slower as all the contents of the pages needs to be loaded again.

However, it is good to clear your cookies, cache, history and footprints every once in a while to free up hard disk space. Now, let’s see how to delete browsing history on Mac.

Part 1: Delete Browsing History & Cache Manually

To erase the browsing history and Cache, you can free up the disk space in some way. However, the steps to deleting process may be not the same according to different browsers. Now, I will show the details of the guide of Safari and Chrome, which are the most common browsers for Mac users.

How to Clear Cache, Cookies or Browsing History on Mac Safari?

Please firstly click on the Safari option on the menu bar and navigate to “History > Clear History”. Then choose how far back (time range) you want to clear the browsing data. But please note that if your Mac and your order iOS device such as iPhone or iPad have Safari turned on in iCloud preferences, your browsing history would be removed from all of them if you take this action.

How to Clear the Cache in Google Chrome?

If you want to delete the browsing history from the Google Chrome on your Mac, you need to point to “History > Show Full History” on the menu pane. Click on the "Clear browsing data" and then you can see a pop-up window in a new tab, please select “Cookies and other site and plug-in data” and “Cached images and files” and choose beginning of time to delete everything. Click the Clear Browsing Data button and the job is done!
