MFT fragmentation

Does Eraser's creation of all the small files (while wiping) expose a system to a significantly higher risk of increased MFT fragmentation?

Higher risk, yes. Significantly, no. We only fill up the empty spaces in the MFT until we determine the MFT has been filled up. The MFT is designed to grow so this should not be an issue.
