The Log says: 'Failed to erase unused space..."

The first time i used erase on my c - drive there were a large number of messages, 30 or more, in the log that said it had failed to erase unused space in a particular area. Is that ok? Many of those spaces seemed important like historeis, data etc. Why did it 'fail' in so many areas?
