thumb drive

i am a computer dummy and trying to figure out how to use eraser to remove all traces of sensitive data i downloaded from thumb drive to my hard drive. i have deleted data from my pc but want to make sure its unretrievable by any and all. please help and be simple in explaining how to do so. thanks
