Using Eraser to format hard drive

My CD drive won't read CD's anymore because I suppose I had an illegal copy of XP Professional. Now I have a legal copy and I want to format my computer but it's difficult when the CD drive doesn't read CD's. Is there a way to use Eraser to format my drive?
 
If you want to erase everything on your PC including the Operating system etc. you can use Darik's Boot & Nuke option that comes with Eraser. You create a boot & nuke CD or FLOPPY and place it in the drive and then boot up the machine. All is erased, not formatted.

IMPORTANT: If you CD Drive doesn't work, I don't know how you are going to re-install the Operating System. You had better get that fixed before you do anything else?
