Which method should I use to convert my OST file to PST format in the 2025 version of Outlook?

While there is no direct or built-in method to convert OST files to PST format, there are several manual workarounds available—but only if the OST file is accessible and connected to Outlook.

Manual Methods to Convert OST to PST:

  1. Export Using Outlook's Import/Export Feature
Navigate to File > Open & Export > Import/Export, and export mailbox data to a PST file.
  2. Use Outlook’s Auto Archive Option
Set up archiving rules by going to Advanced > Auto Archive Settings to move mailbox items to a PST file over time.
  3. Drag & Drop Items to a New PST File
Create a new PST file in Outlook and manually drag folders or items from the OST mailbox into it.
  4. Recreate OST and Backup Mailbox Data
If necessary, you can recreate the OST by removing and re-adding the account, then exporting or archiving the new mailbox content to a PST.

Important Considerations:

  • These methods only work if the OST file is still connected to Outlook.
  • They can be time-consuming and require technical knowledge.
  • There’s a significant risk of data corruption or permanent data loss if not done properly.
  • Manual methods are not suitable for orphaned, corrupted, or inaccessible OST files.
If you’re dealing with a disconnected or damaged OST file, using a professional OST to PST Converter is the safer, faster, and more reliable option. While paid, these tools are designed to preserve your data integrity and handle even the most complex cases with ease.
