I encounter the same thing. The reason is that the eraser seems to be starting the command "Erase.exe -hide" everytime it startup. Deleting the command from the registry RUN section will stop it from running but this does not solve the problem at all. This will only solve the problem for current...
That's a pity that parallel processing has been removed but I see the point. Most users will save time by this.
Yet a little option for those in need of this feature would be nice (it's the age of parallelization ;-)).
Luckily it's not too much of a drawback for me since my computer is running...

I'm using Eraser 6.0.8 in Windows XP SP3. I use the following command to delete the recycle bin folder.
eraserl -folder "C:\RECYCLER\" -subfolders -keepfolder -method random 1 -queue -silent

I have had the same problem when using 5.8.7 and 5.8.8 beta1. The fix for me was to disable the eraser shell extension - context menu.
Windows Explorer now works with right clicks.
