Question about "blanking" during DBAN

when the DBAN program is running, and it is in the part of the program that "blanks" the hard drive, does it do so in a similar way to Eraser, eg by leaving a multitude of files, all sized 0kb, and with similar names (ie a sring of zeros, then a numerical sequence at the end) or does it truly blank the hard drive, leaving no trace that any wipe has been done?

Thanks
