Is Eraser still under active development?

^This, and secure move. I really miss those features. It's way to easy to accidentally shred a file when you meant to do something else. It's a pretty aggressive thing to perform without a confirmation dialog. I assume that on the same drive it just makes a change to the the MFT or something...

Eraser is not a valid Win32 application

I found the same thing trying to install a nightly build. Not like you need someone else saying that, but just to point out that WinXP is likely to have a long lifespan even after MS tries to kill it. Btw, there is an inconsistency in the Nightly Build naming. All the available ones are listed...

Wipe Free Space and MFT - Remaining drive contents affected?

Re: Wipe Free Space and MFT - Remaining drive contents affec This just made me think of something. With the conversation going on about file name obfuscation, it would be pretty cool of Eraser had the ability to create a new MFT, copy the names of existing files to it and then erase the old...

Orphan Menu Option on Drag & Drop

I guess I'm just a magnet for bugs (I'm huge at pool parties and picnics). I tried 6.0.10.2719 but found erasing files on my desktop caused my icons to move around and a random named file to appear in place of the deleted one. Now I'm down to stable build 6.0.10.2620. In short order I found a...

    File table name obfuscation

Thanks. I'm not that paranoid yet that I need to hide the fact that I hid something, I just want all of it destroyed, the name with the data. I love that this feature was added.

    File table name obfuscation

I'm still unclear on the selection of files. If you choose a folder for the list (rather than individual files), are all the files in the folder used, or just the properties of the folder? I guess I'm asking if I need to go into a folder and select all the files there for use, or can I just...

    File table name obfuscation

I wanted to ask how the bogus naming thing works. I see that I have the ability to add file names and folders to a list, but what happens after that? 1) Does a folder selected only get used to overwrite names of folders or does names of the files contained in that folder get used? 2) Is there...

Erasing free space and file recovery

I keep a second NTFS drive for media and files larger than 4gb. FAT32 is more flexible and generally better for other purposes, so I have no intention of converting my main drive. I guess I'll have to look around for software that can erase before booting to the desktop. That'd be a nice...

Erasing free space and file recovery

I'm not sure what bit you are referring to about 'what David said'. It is, unfortunately, my system drive, so I cannot remove the data and reformat. Still, I would hope that there is software that can do that more conveniently. Edit: Tried the same process with Eraser 5 and received: Error...

Erasing free space and file recovery

Unused space erase, check. Run for a good long time, check. Completed correctly? Not sure. Garbage files were added to the root directory with random characters, but I thought I read somewhere this is typical (and to be fixed later). Edit: To be clear, this drive is FAT32, so it doesn't have...

Erasing free space and file recovery

I'm sorry if this has been asked and answered, but I'm sort of new to this and I'm not sure of the proper terms to search for. After doing a free space erasing (in this particular instance my older FAT32 drive), I can still load file recover software and see a list of files that were previously...
